  Abstract:
Fragmentation is a well-known dominant mechanism for production of heavy hadrons with large transverse momenta. In this work we study the effect of Fermi motion of constituent quarks on the direct fragmentation of heavy quarks and extend our study to next-to-leading order accuracy at perturbative QCD. In most previous theoretical works to compute the fragmentation functions of hadrons a delta function form was approximated for the wave function of hadronic bound state in which the Fermi motion of constituents was ignored. Here, we consider a typical wave function which is different from the delta function and is the nonrelativistic limit of the solution of Bethe-Salpeter equation with the QCD kernel. Our results show that when both the effect of Fermi motion and NLO corrections are simultaneously considered the theoretical results are in a better consistency with the fragmentation functions extracted phenomenologically.
