BIOLOGICAL SCIENCES

It is well-established experimentally and well-studied computationally that bacteria tend toward moist surfaces in their habitats. In the language of ?uid mechanics, in a con?ned environment, this exemplar type of self-propelled particles move toward and accumulate on con?ning boundaries. The ?rst part of this talk will be about the ?urry of interest focused toward the so called “near-wall behavior” of micro swimmers generally, and motile bacteria speci?cally. Results of research on the peculiar behavior of bacteria near walls, be they those of narrow channels within micro?uidic lab-on-a-chip, or the ‘naturally-occurring’ walls of physiol ...

Higher Aronszajn trees

MATHEMATICS

Aronszajn trees are of fundamental importance in combinatorial set theory, and two of the most interesting problems about them, are the problem of their existence (the Tree Property), and the problem of their specialization (the Special Aronszajn Tree Property).
In these talks, we review some known results about higher Aronszajn trees. The first talk is devoted to the tree property and the second one is devoted to the special Aronszajn Tree Property. We also mention some open problems. ...
