PARTICLES AND ACCELERATORS

The goal of the workshop is to introduce detectors, and the future developing of electronic readout with its application in particle physics.
We will also review the IPM engagement in designing electronic upgrades for the Muon detector (RPC) of the CMS experiment at the LHC high luminosity operation.

Using Time-Temperature Superposition for Determining Dielectric Loss in Functionalized Polyethylenes

Abstract:

Using Molecular Dynamics simulations, we probe the effect of various pendant polar groups on the dielectric loss of polyethylene copolymers. The dielectric loss was computed using the autocorrelation function of the total dipole moment of a completely relaxed PE-X sample. Since this calculation is computationally expensive (wall time ? 4200 h), we explore the use of the time-temperature superposition (tTS) principle to make it more tractable. An important point is that short time MD simulations do ...

Vacuum decay and bubble nucleation inf(R) gravity

School
ASTRONOMY

In this talk, I first review the concept of vacuum decay in quantum mechanics and field theory. Then I will review our study of vacuum decay and bubble nucleation in models of f(R) higher curvature gravity building upon the analysis of Coleman De Luccia (CDL). We could show that higher curvature terms may have nontrivial effects on the tunneling rate and bubble size. Our main focus is on the Starobinsky model and its higher power extensions though the formalism is rather general.

Tangles -vs- Trees

School
MATHEMATICS

The topic of these talks is the structural theory of sparse graphs. More specifically, we study the interplay between highly cohesive substructures, which we figuratively refer to as `tangles', and decompositions over a (graph-theoretic) tree, which we simply call `trees'. At this point, we intentionally leave the meaning of these terms undefined and rely solely on the connotations they may carry.
We are primarily interested in situations in which a certain pair of a tangle and a tree cannot coexist: the existence of the specified substructure makes a decomposition of the desired kind impossible and vice versa. For example, tree-dec ...
