Self-interacting Dark Matter as a solution to small-scale problems of Cosmology

ASTRONOMY

Standard model of Cosmology (Lambda-CDM) has been successful in explaining large scale structure, Cosmic Microwave Background, and relative abundance of elements produced in the early universe. Moreover, hierarchical structure formation which is a signature of Lambda-CDM seems to be a precise description of matter fluctuation growth. Nature of small-scale structures in the universe, however, is problematic for Lambda-CDM. Numerical N-Body simulations predict a universal spherically symmetric density profile for dark matter (DM) halos, namely Navarro-Frenk-White (NFW) profile (arXiv:astro-ph/961110). Both of these two predictions (i.e. existen ...

Estimation and Control in a Quantum World

Quantum information science has helped significantly enhance our understanding of nature and how it works. In particular, estimation of unknown parameters -- a pivotal task in science and technology -- has improved by considering quantum resources. Similarly, controlling systems towards their target configurations or dynamics is another essential task, where quantum information science comes starkly useful. In this talk, I shortly review some of the main ideas of quantum metrology and quantum control, and argue that how our improved ability to perform these two tasks (estimation and ...
